Welcome to Tennessee 511

Tennessee 511TDOT has enhanced and improved its Tennessee 511system making it easier for the caller to retrieve information on road and travel conditions, incidents, and construction on state highways. The enhancements include the addition of transit, tourist and airport information. Travelers have the option of accessing road and travel conditions using the Web at www.TN511.com or by dialing  511 on their cellular phones or their land lines.

To aid motorists in traveling Tennessee’s roadways, Tennessee 511 uses an automated voice response system where callers are guided through the menu through a series of requests. Callers can ask for specific roadways or regions, and the system will provide information.  Since Tennessee 511 became operational on August 14, 2006, there have been almost 3 million callers to the system. The average number each day is 2,000.

Real-Time Traffic Options
Tennessee has other options for motorists in getting traffic information. The TDOT website featuring TDOT SmartWay provides real-time traffic information - including camera images and message boards - as well as weather-related road conditions. Cameras and message boards are live in Knoxville, Memphis and Nashville, and are in the design and construction phase in Chattanooga and Memphis. Similar traffic information on Tennessee 511 and TDOT SmartWay is also “tweeted” to the public through TDOT’s Twitter pages.
